About Greenfields NF Sleipner
Sleipner is out of Hiraeth Carys by Te Klein Ike and is the sweetest rising two year old gelding who is both inquisitive, courageous and cuddly. He is a laid back young man and looks to become an athletic horse with age and maturity, showing the foundation of some lovely paces. I’d not be surprised to find his mature height in the mid 14hh range, but at this point it is anyone’s guess. As his most recent photos shows he is in an active growth spurt currently, but I know there’s a swan hiding under the fluff, and his temperament is second to none.
This young gelding is currently living with the other young boys in a bachelor herd, but spent the summer in the combined youngster herd of 13 horses. He has proven himself good at making friends and is not a pushy horse in the herd. He is a clever horse who navigates the herd dynamics very well and shows a lot of sensibility for such a young horse. Despite his young age Sleipner acts well as a companion horse for other horses not as confident as himself, and I often describe him as an old soul in a young body.
Sleipner cross ties easily as well as hard ties. In the first year of his life he had frequent bouts of free faecal water syndrome and some scours, which has made him seasoned at getting baths and he enjoys them. The FFWS is mostly a thing of the past now, only making very rare occurrences with the common denominator seeming to be after significant changes in pasture (swapping paddocks, flooding rain) so is likely to not be a issue if predominantly hay fed.
Sleipner stands solidly for the farrier, whom he has seen every five weeks since birth. His feet are regularly trimmed using an angle grinder with no adverse reaction. Mane trims, vaccinations, oral administration of anthelmintic etc is a breeze, and he mostly leads like a grown up, although not always enthusiastically following if he’s being led away from the herd. He has been loaded on a float, but has yet to travel anywhere, so we’re aiming at getting him trained further around the float.
As he is so very young Sleipner will only be sold to someone with experience with young horses and the buyer must be willing to wait until he is 4 years old before breaking to saddle or doing any hard work. Sleipner needs a home where he will be with other horses to continue to develop his skills as a horse. With patience and understanding I believe he will be someone’s super performance horse down the track and would love to see him find a home where his potential will be utilised in due time.
All horses are sold under contract developed by HorseForce. We urge you to request a copy of said contract as part of your due diligence.
We welcome vet checks on our horses, and are happy to assist in facilitating such checks. We would prefer vets selected for vet checks to be within an 80km radius of Upper Orara due to time allocation as most require us to travel the horse to them. Greenfield’s Stud has a pre-existing ongoing customer relationship with Pacific Vetcare and Equine Veterinary and Dental Services (EVDS).
