About Greenfields NF Odin

Greenfields NF Odin out of Te Klein Gemma by Orkan Skovå (imported frozen semen) is a delightful young stallion who will be an asset to any serious purebred Fjord Horse breeding program. Odin has been an eye catcher from the day he was born and we felt so certain in his future as a contributor to the gene pool, that when he had an infection in his femur as a three month old we threw everything at him to see him through quite poor odds. We were aiming at creating a paddock sound serving stallion, however he is fully recovered and has commenced his ridden career, taking him along slowly and steadily

Odin is expecting his first foal in early August 2024 and we can’t wait to see what he produces. Until this season where he’s remained living with his mare, he’s been living a very happy playful life in the bachelor herd with our other junior stallion and any other geldings we have had at any given time. He very much holds his own, but has not been aggressive or unduly pushy in the herd. Even returning to the herd after serving (foal unfortunately lost due to external factors impacting the mare) and being broken in last year, he was interacting cordially with the other stallion, a little opinionated to one or two of the smaller geldings, but mainly just telling them he likes his own space.

With the mare, it took him a bit to fine tune his technique the first season. This season we ran him with two different mares, and his technique has definitely improved. He has been respectful, but persistent and was courteous of the foals at foot. Last year he lived with his mare and foal until we sent him off to be broken in in February, and this year he ha continued to live with one of his mares for the duration of the pregnancy.

Greenfields NF Odin was broken in during autumn 2023, then turned out until around March 2024. After a handful of sessions back under saddle Odin attended his first clinic commencing his journey in classical dressage and he did not put a foot wrong, being the perfect focused gentleman throughout our lessons. Looking forward to continuing his journey in classical dressage for as long as he remains with us, building his strength and balance developing a wonderful forward moving balanced mount.

Odin has a strong athletic build and we believe he will grow a little more before he is fully mature. We would absolutely love to keep him for ourselves and are in no hurry to sell him, however he is too closely related to the majority of our up and coming breeding stock (their father and his mother are full siblings), so if we can find him a home that wishes to use him for both pure breeding and as a performance horse in any chosen discipline we will be happy to negotiate a suitable price. Odin will not be available to a home where the values and ethics honoured within Fjord Horse breeding isn’t understood and respected.

Please note, as we intend to use Odin this season we do not expect him to be available to any new home until early December. This will also allow for further development under saddle and an understanding of the offspring he produces so at this point we are only taking expressions of interest where we are happy to discuss approximate price range we’ll want to see for this once in a lifetime young stallion.

All horses are sold under contract developed by HorseForce. We urge you to request a copy of said contract as part of your due diligence.

We welcome vet checks on our horses, and are happy to assist in facilitating such checks. We would prefer vets selected for vet checks to be within an 80km radius of Upper Orara due to time allocation as most require us to travel the horse to them. Greenfield’s Stud has a pre-existing ongoing customer relationship with Pacific Vetcare and Equine Veterinary and Dental Services (EVDS).
